Casino gaming revenue in Rhode Island recorded a noticeable decline in January, falling approximately 6 percent compared with the same period last year. The drop reflects evolving consumer behavior, seasonal fluctuations and intensifying competition across the broader gaming industry. While casinos remain a key contributor to the state’s economy and public revenue streams, the latest figures suggest that operators are navigating a more complex market environment.

South Korea’s casino operator Paradise Co reported a strong performance in February, with total casino revenue reaching KRW 89.5 billion (US$61.2 million), marking a 24.4 percent increase compared with the same month last year. The growth was primarily driven by higher table game earnings, which remain the backbone of the company’s gaming operations. Despite the annual increase, February revenue was slightly lower than January’s performance due to softer gaming volumes and a decline in casino drop. Machine gaming also recorded moderate growth.

Grand Korea Leisure Co. (GKL), a casino operator focused on international visitors, reported a notable rise in gaming revenue during February, signaling continued recovery in Asia’s tourism-linked casino sector. The company posted total casino sales of KRW38.08 billion (approximately Rs.214 crore), reflecting strong year-on-year and month-on-month growth despite the shorter calendar month. The performance was largely fueled by steady demand for table games and significant expansion in gaming machine revenue.

The global casino and hospitality sector is experiencing renewed financial strain as several operators confront declining revenue, operational restructuring, and workforce reductions. A major Asian gaming operator reported falling net gaming revenue and a sharp drop in earnings, partly driven by the closure of satellite casinos and portfolio consolidation efforts. At the same time, a European casino resort operator has announced sweeping layoffs affecting more than half of its workforce, citing profitability concerns and a strategic shift in gaming operations.

For most of its modern history, Singapore prohibited casino gambling. That changed in 2005 when the government approved the development of two “integrated resorts” (IRs) as part of a long-term tourism and economic diversification strategy.

The decision was not framed as gambling expansion — it was positioned as infrastructure development to strengthen Singapore’s global competitiveness in tourism, finance and conventions.

Sports betting revenue also advanced modestly, rising 4% to $56 million (about Rs. 4.65 billion) on a handle of $382 million. Growth was distributed across major gaming districts, including Lake Charles, Shreveport/Bossier City and New Orleans, although individual property performance varied.

The results reflect a 9.2 percent year-on-year increase, highlighting robust consumer demand and the growing acceptance of regulated gaming across multiple states.

Casino gaming revenue in Massachusetts declined 2 percent year over year in January, reflecting seasonal softness and shifting consumer spending patterns. The state’s licensed resort casinos and sports wagering operators reported lower aggregate receipts compared with the same month last year, although overall activity remained stable by historical standards. Analysts attribute the moderation to post-holiday normalization, weather-related disruptions and broader macroeconomic caution among discretionary consumers.
